Getting started with Fabric capacity trial

Install & setup DataTako with a Fabric Capacity trial within minutes using this guide.

Why use DataTako with a Fabric Capacity?

  • Save money by reducing the need for Power BI Pro / Premium licenses
  • Test everything using Microsoft’s 60-day Fabric trial (which can often be restarted multiple times).

Setup steps

Activate the Fabric capacity trial

Go to Microsoft Fabric Admin start page here. After logging in, click on the profile image in the top right corner and click on the “Free trial” button:

If you do not see the “Free trial” button you might have already used your free trial before. Usually it’s possible to active your trial again after it has ended.

Configure your Power BI workspaces to use your Fabric capacity

After your capacity is active, assign your Power BI workspaces to use your Fabric capacity.

Log in in Power BI online here and open your workspace settings:

In your Workspace settings navigate to “License info” and edit your current workspace license configuration:

By selecting the trial you ensure the reports in that workspace run on the Fabric capacity rather than on individual licenses.

DataTako setup step 1: Configure DataTako for capacity mode

Navigate to DataTako and open the connections page here and select the “Capacity” options and go through the setup steps:

After following the steps above you are ready to use DataTako with a Fabric capacity! If you need any help with the above steps or have any other questions, contact us and we will walk you through it.

If you don’t have enough permissions to grant DataTako rights to PowerBI you can expand the ‘Share with Azure administrator / IT‘ section and follow the steps. Read more about it here.

Other setup steps

If you haven’t followed the basic setup steps in DataTako yet, you can either find them in the platform or in the getting started document.
